Handling a Suicide or a Death

Generally no one is prepared for a death to occur. Whether its a suicide or a crime, or simply and accident or natural causes, its not something that most of us are ready to handle. There are times when its not a complete surprise such as an older person who was ill but most of the time its a complete shock and terrible situation. No one wants to walk into a death scene. Even and unattended death of natural causes can be a horrific sight. If its from a crime or accident it leaves us all horrified and questioning the incident. If its a suicide, its simply a tragedy on another level. There is often nothing anyone can say when these things occur to make sense of it or help the situation. But there are some steps to take when it occurs.

First thing is to call the authorities to report the incident and let them understand there is a death involved so that they can investigate the situation. Any time there is a death they should be notified even if its a unattended death of natural causes, a suicide or an accident. Its best to have them come right away to prevent further injuries and to secure the area so they can get an understanding of what went on. If this was a crime scene they will need to secure the area, make sure its safe for others and investigate the situation so that they can determine what happened.
